Description

US Army Officer's Dress Sword Philippine-American War

Antique US Army officer's dress sword, given to 1st Lieutenant F.J. Morrow of the 17th Infantry. The sword bears the inscription "Presented to 1st Lieut. F.J. Morrow 17th Inf. by Co.'L' 17th Inf. Whom he commanded during the Philippine Campaign".

The 17th Infantry was a major part of the American campaign to put down the Philippine insurrection that occurred after America took the Philippines from Spain in accordance with the 1898 Treaty of Paris.

The sword features very ornate etched designs on the blade, which is marked as being made by the Springfield Armory. The gilding on the handle is in excellent condition and very intact for its age, and on the scabbard as well. This sword is in good condition with some light rust on the blade and wear on the black coating on the leather grip.
