DESCRIPTION: Collage created in 1957. Mixed media on canvas. Middleton was a mixed media artist from New York City. He traveled all over the world with the U.S. Merchant Marine. He settled in Holland in 1961 and established himself as one of the premier artists in Holland. His work is part of the Whitney Museum in permanent collection. He grew up in Harlem. He used abstract expressionism in his work, basing his color, lines, and compositions around sound and harmony. He specialized working in collage. PROVENANCE: Originally belonged to Maria Courie who then gifted it to her friend Karen King. It was subsequently verified by Sam Middleton through an email exchange.
