Description
Japanese Inlaid Bronze Koro, probably Meiji period in date, is a finely crafted example of the mixed metals artistry in Japan at the turn of the century. Its shape was inspired by ancient Chinese bronze vessels. The sides are intricately decorated with inlaid silver motifs of a lake landscape with a view of Mount Fuji, the obverse cranes on the shoreline in grasses. The shoulder and cover of the form decorated with lappets, a miniature Shi-shi forms the handle on the cover. The incense burner comes with a tomobako that is inscribed on the lid.
