Description
Japanese Wood and Metal Box: Nakagawa Yoshizane, probably created around 1890, features a metal plate set onto the wooden top. It is created from silver, shakudo (silver/copper alloy), gold amd copper inlay. A hawk pursuing sparrows on a winter day is the featured decoration. The interior is lined with silver. The artist was highly acclaimed for his work. Emperor Meiji purchased a box with a similar design in 1906. It was gifted to the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo in 2002 in honor of its 80th anniversary.The box is signed Yoshizane. It comes with a tomobako. Provenance: Grace Tsumugi Fine Art, London

Condition
Interior silver plate lining is is loose on 2 sides. Some thin shrinkage cracks to bottom of box.
