Japanese Lacquer Tray with Hand Painted Silk Lining: Kamisaka Sekka, created around 1920-1940, is a type of tray(suzuributa) made for serving tea sweets during the tea ceremony. The lacquer is by the artist Suzuki Hyosaku (1874-1943) and the interior painting on silk is by the lacquer artist Kamisaka Sekka (1866-1942). The painting represents sheaves of rice and rendered in gold paint. The tomobako has an inscribed lid with the signature of Hyosaku and the has the name Suzuki Hyosaku and stamped Kyoto.
