Description
Japanese Carved and Gilded Wood Buddhist Sculpture: Kannon Bosatsu, early 1700's in date, was probably carved for a private altar. It is slightly bowed in reverence with hands clasped in mudra symbolizing adoration and sincerity. The original mandorla is carved and embellished with black lacquer and gold. The intricate carving of the headdress and attached metal necklace attests to the artistry in the creation of the sculpture.
