Description
SIGNED LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA PAINT-DECORATED BENCH, the triple back featuring a long tablet crest above a horizontal slat supported between each post, the scrolling arms resting on turned supports, and a rectangular scooped plank seat, the whole raised on bamboo-turned legs joined by front and rear slats and front-to-back turned stretchers. Branded "J. SWINT / CHAIR MAKER" multiple times under the seat. Retains its original apple-green painted surface with polychrome stenciled fruit and foliage decorations accented with gilt plumes and banding. John Swint, Lancaster, PA, active 1847-1860. 36" HOA, 17 1/2" H seat, 76" x 18 1/2" seat.
