Ancient Near East, Bactria, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A set of 4 petite lion amulets carved from vibrant lapis lazuli. Each leonine creature lays recumbent while raising its head, the detailing formed by delicate string-cut grooves. Lions were a symbol of strength and virility through the ancient world. Size of largest: 0.75" L x 0.2" W x 0.6" H (1.9 cm x 0.5 cm x 1.5 cm)
