George Otto Trevelyan was an English politician who wrote a six volume history of the American Revolution between 1897 and 1914. This version, edited by Richard B. Morris in 1964, focuses on Treveleyan's analysis of British politics and society during the war, "a frivolous and venal society, a corrupt political system, and a stubborn and myopic King- all set off against an idyllic if not over-idealized picture of American society." Morris omitted military treatment and other topics of the American revolution well-covered in many other books.
Morris does include chapters that set the stage of the conflict, Trevelyan's portraits of John Adams, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin as well as his analysis of European leaders and their foreign policies.
"It is possible to purchase a complete version of Trevelyan's work in other, more recent editions; however, having looked at their online tables of contents, I suspect that most readers would prefer the abridged version." [from a review]
