THREE LATE MING/EARLY QING DYNASTY STYLE PAINTED AND CARVED WOOD TEMPLE FIGURES, POSSIBLY LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY, each covered with traces of polychrome decorated remnants of thin paper, the tall central figure carved as a Taoist immortal with lotus chignon hairstyle above a serene smiling expression and wearing long robes with hands clasped in front covered by draped cloth, seated on a block form chair base and raised on a custom rectangular rosewood stand, height: 18", width: 5 1/2", depth: 5"; with stand height: 21", width: 8", depth: 7"; flanked by a pair of Taoist temple figures with scrolled cap over faces with serene expressions and wearing long robes crossed at neck, before hands clasped in front covered by draped cloth and standing on shaped block form bases raised on custom rectangular rosewood stands, the largest height: 16 1/2", width: 5 1/4", depth: 3"; with stand height: 17 3/4", width: 6 7/8", depth: 4 1/2". Provenance: Collection of Hubert Hudson, Texas Senator 1957-1963, Brownsville, Texas.
Condition
Lacking most of paint decoration, large age shrinkage cracks, old restorations/repairs, inactive worming throughout, wood is dry, and each underside exhibits signs of fire exposure with slightly burned areas. One has old handwritten retail tag with description and asking price.
