Description
An elegant contemporary watercolor on paper titled "The Shimmering" by Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay. A unique work. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right. A lovely composition featuring women reminiscent of the cafe scenes by Toulouse Lautrec. From a private collection, originally purchased from Park West Gallery in 2013. Original gallery tag on verso. Dimensions: 24.75"h x 24.75"w x 1.75"d" (framed). In very good condition. Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was an Israeli painter and graphic artist known as a key figure in the modern figurative movement. His art is focused on almost dream images of elegant women, often in pairs. He was also a graphic artist, and his rich tapestry of form and color was achieved primarily using serigraphy. In his serigraphs, many colors are laid over one another and used to create texture and transparency. In his later years, Tarkay mentored younger Israeli artists including David Najar, Yuval Wolfson and Mark Kanovich who often visited his studio, worked alongside him and received his critiques. Tarkay was also the only artist to collaborate with Yaacov Agam. He and Agam created two paintings which incorporated both artists' imagery in a single painting. Tarkay's art has been featured in more than 50 exhibitions around the world.
