"Boa Constrictor and Other Stories" [for children], no author, undated, no copyright, published by Crosby and Nichols, Boston, 1850s.
Embossed blind decorated hard boards, original publisher’s red cloth with gold decorated spine, 4.1/2" x 6"; antique faded inscription on the front endpaper, 48 pages illustrated with woodcuts + 14 pages of ads consisting of frontispieces and title pages; a little soiling and wear, tight binding, very good condition.

Crosby, Nichols & Co. was organized in 1852 and continued to publish until 1860. In February of 1860, a circular was posted announcing the closing of the firm, which reads in part, "The dissolution of the late firm Crosby, Nichols & Co., renders it necessary that their accounts be closed with as little delay as possible. . ." In 1860, the company was reorganized with a new partner, becoming Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Company. In 1861, Lee left the failing company.
