Description
North American. Oil on canvas, laid on board. A profile view of the American steamship "Cayuga," which once sailed between Toronto and Niagara Falls, flies the flags of the United States & Great Britain. The steamship plies through the waters making white waves against its charcoal-grey hull. A forest and hills in shades of green add stark contrast to the boat painted white. Two smokestacks in red and dark grey provide additional interest against a pale cumulus sky. It is displayed in a newer wooden frame. The screw steamer was built in Canada, launched in 1906 and removed from service in April 1957. Marked, information about the Cayuga attached to back. Sight: 23.5" x 29.5". Frame: 27.75" x 33.5" x 1". From the June and late David Chambers Collection.
