Description
Canadian. Mildmay, Ontario. Redware. A good-sized redware pitcher in mottled glaze. Pitchers in this form have been attributed to Ignatz Bitschy, Bruce County Pottery in Mildmay, Ontario. The glaze is exceptional and one that is not traditionally associated with Bitschy, but more often with the Markham Pottery. In any case, this pitcher is a stellar example from highly coveted Ontario potters. 8.5" x 7.5" incl. handle and spout. From the June and late David Chambers Collection.
Condition
Two chips, both a 1/2" in size, exist beneath the spout and just below the edge of the rim to the left of the handle. A chip measuring 1 1/4" in length is visible at the base on the front of the jug. Numerous other chips and glaze flakes of varying sizes can be seen primarily on the right side and at the back of the jug beneath the handle. A chip at the center point is evident on the underside of the base.
