Description
Canadian. Oil on canvas. A maritime painting of the three-masted barquentine, "Five Sisters", Liverpool, Nova Scotia in which the off-white sheets of the schooner battle the grey-white wave-capped sea. The hull is painted jet black and the bridge, rendered in sunlit brown, shows sailor activity. The threatening sky is painted in grey-green adding sharp contrast to the piece. On the horizon, another sailboat battles the sea. Oil on canvas, with "Five Sisters Liverpool N.S." inscribed in gold lettering on a black band at the bottom of the piece, and signed "Adams, 1898" to the lower right. The painting has been relined and is in a later-period gold frame. Signed, "Adams 1898" lower right. Sight: 16" x 23.25". Frame: 22" x 29.5" x 2.25". From the June and late David Chambers Collection.
