Native American, Southwestern United States, Third Mesa, Hopi Pueblo, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A large, coiled basketry plaque with a petaloid flower motif, made from yucca, grasses, and/or other natural plant fibers. Traditionally such plaques were made as ceremonial gifts such as for a first kachina dance or wedding, and today are used as artistic and decorative pieces that celebrate Hopi culture. This piece was probably a craft piece and has a very tight and beautifully executed pattern! Size: 14.5" Diameter (36.8 cm)
