Catherine de Medicis, Queen of France. Three of her four sons became Kings of France. A signed letter, one page, folio. Dated February 1565. The letter is to Monsieur de Matignon, giving him a pep talk about representing her son the King, "thus being of the greatest help to him that you can." Her signature is centered under the letter, and there is a highly flourished signature under and to the right of hers. Size: H 14" x W 9" Condition: Excellent Condition. Some tape at fold splits (1"). Removed from a volume as evidenced by pinholes up the left edge. Chips and edge darkening,all commensurate with great age. Comes with a 17th century engraving (5-3/4" x 4-1/2") of Catherine,mounted to a modern (and poorly cut) page.
