Description
SPRINGFIELD MC1 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3717226. Bbl. 24". Marked on right side "LMR B6535448 10 53A23P M" w/ faint crossed cannons. Throat & muzzle gauge 1.0. "T105E1" Aperture rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Sight ears have been modified to a more flared profile. In 1952 the United States Marine Corps refurbished a number of M1C Sniper rifles & fitted them w/ Stith-Kollmorgen 4X telescopic sights. A number were converted by Springfield Armory but some were done by Marine Corp. armorers. This example has a receiver drawing # D28291 35 which is the correct range. The sight base has a S# at the bottom which does not match the rifle & the mt. screws appear to have been removed & replaced. The slide is marked on top w/ the early "GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK PAT. #1,856,549 MAY 3, 1932.". The slide has been refitted w/ the later triangular locking levers plus the scope rings are split vertically & have allen head screws. The telescope is marked at the rear "4X DOUBLE KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP. BROOKLYN, N.Y. PAT. PEND." Scope is marked on top w/ "MO 1287-P". The scope has a black finish & a fine crosshair reticle w/ a 1.025" tube. Equipped w/ Storm Queen scope caps. All major rifle parts' markings are "SA". Milled trigger guard. High hump gas cyl. lock & single slot gas cyl. lock screw. Walnut stock set. Replacement buttstock is marked only w/ encircled "P" proof under grip & boxed "P" proof at end of grip. Stock is equipped w/ lace on tan leather cheek pad which also has 2 brass attaching screws. Pad is marked on left side "MRT10 52". Tan leather sling w/ steel hooks. Well-worn sling has illegible U.S. military markings. One keeper is detached but present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cone type flash hider marked "SA HIDER FLASH M-2". Cleaning rod in buttstock. CONDITION: stock set has light wear staining & scattered handling marks retaining a good appearance. Vintage arsenal rework parkerized finish has thinning & light wear. Optics appear clear & serviceable. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVANANCE: from the Estate Collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (23-1240/RW). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
