South Asia, India, Indo-Persian / Mughal culture, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved elephant ivory figurine of a male musician standing upon a wood base and wearing a long coat, sash, flowing pants, and a turban - characteristic of the Mughal era court. He plays a stringed instrument with a bow - possibly a rebab or ravanahaththa. The man is carved from a single piece of ivory then mounted on a separate ivory disc attached to a short wood pedestal. Size: 2.25" Diameter x 5" H (5.7 cm x 12.7 cm)
