Alabaster is one of the most precious materials in Ancient Egypt, used for funerary offerings and the most complex mummification rites.
This type of vessel was used to contain the ointments used in mummification. Its stylisation and design make it one of the most stylised ointment vessels surviving from Egyptian antiquity.
This vessel has the particularity of having two handles on its spherical body, suggesting that it may have been used to hold the ointments around the neck.
