Description
18th c. Country Chippendale Desk, red stained maple surface, top with exposed dovetails, molded edge lid with breadboard ends, interior fitted with six drawers and six pigeon holes, case with four graduated drawers with cockbeaded edge molding, brass oval drop bail pulls, set on a shaped bracket base, pine secondary wood, 42" high, 43" x 21 1/2". Old repairs. Percival Proctor Baxter (1876-1969) served terms in the Maine State Senate, Maine House of Representatives and was elected the 53rd governor of the State of Maine (1921-1925). He also donated significant land for public use, including Baxter State Park (in Piscataquis County), Baxter Woods (in Portland), and Mackworth Island State Park (in Falmouth).
