Description
The Historic Starrucca Viaduct, a stone arch bridge that spans Starrucca Creek near Lanesboro, PA, on the Susquehana. The landmark was built in 1847-48 for the New York & Erie Railroad by Julius W. Adams and James P. Kirkwood (seen in foreground). Still in use to this day. Taken from the same vantage point as "Starruca Viaduct, Pennsylvania, 1865", by Jasper Francis Cropsey (1823-1900), but a few years earlier. oil on canvas, initialed "ADH" lower center, housed in what appears to be the original gilt gesso frame, OS: 18 3/4" x 24 3/4", SS: 13 1/2" x 19 1/2".
