Description
Historical Staffordshire of American views, two pieces, early 19th C., English, blue transfer printed on porcelain, including: "State House Boston" by Joseph Stubbs, Longport, England (1822-1835), platter depicts a central domed building set on hillside, figures promenade around center green with cows in foreground, three impressive spread-wing eagles to border nod to America's Independence, rounded sides, glazed mark with title on reverse along with impressed stamp "14", moderate wear includes ample knife marks at center, interior edge with wear and loss, toning and craqulure of glaze to reverse, 14 5/8" x 12 1/8". [Literature: The Armans - Historical Staffordshire, An Illustrated Check-List, First Supplement, p. 48, #331]; and "City Hall, New York" by John & William Ridgway, Hanley, England (1813-1830), part of the "Beauties of America" series, depicts family of three facing in front lawn looking towards the impressive structure, floral border, blue glazed mark with title on reverse along with a seperate "4", wear consistent with age including craqulure of glaze, a few short knife marks, firing imperfections, etc., 9 3/4" diam.
