Horstmann Marked Import Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber by Weyersberg
American Civil War
36" curved single edged blade with 26" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.25" wide at ricasso. 42" in overall length. 6" hilt with cast brass two branch guard and knuckle bow, grooved wood grip with leather covering and 19 wraps of twisted wire. Obverse ricasso marked HORSTMANN/& SONS/PHILADELPHIA with the reverse stamped with the {King's Head} mark of Weyersberg of Solingen. Includes a steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
Condition
Very good. Blade with some bright polish and showing scattered surface oxidation and freckled discoloration. Markings clear. Guard with a golden patina. Grip with some light wear, leather very good and wire intact. Throat washer in place. Scabbard chemically browned with scattered pinpricking and wear, showing s flaw on the reverse near the drag, and some minor dings.
