Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Linen Press, Charleston, South Carolina, c. 1795. The top section crowned with dentil molding above a coved cornice and matched veneer fascia, raised on solid mahogany sides hinged to two joined paneled doors opening onto interior of four open drawers; the bottom section containing one row of split drawers over two graduated drawers with cockbead-molded and matched veneer fronts, all raised on bracket feet, 121cm wide, 58cm deep, 213cm high (48 1/2in wide, 23in deep, 84 1/2in high). Footnotes: Provenance Per two notes pasted inside proper right door, one written by Maria Winthrop Ravenel (1851-1919) of Charleston, South Carolina, dated 1913, 'This wardrobe belonged originally to Mrs. Wm. Henry Drayton,' neé Dorothy Golightly (1747-80), of Berkeley County and Charleston, South Carolina; to daughter Mary (Drayton) Parker (1774-1826) of Abbeville County and Charleston; to daughter Maria Evelina (Parker) Winthrop (1799-1877); to daughter Augusta (Winthrop) Ravenel (1822-91); to daughter Maria Winthrop Ravenel (1851-1919); to nieces Eliza 'Lilli' Huger Smith (1871-1964), Caroline Ravenel Huger Smith (1872-1974), and Alice Ravenel Huger Smith (1876-1958), all of Charleston; to their niece Caroline Ravenel Mason (Smith) Toms Carré (1907-83) of New York City and Washington, DC.
