This is an original 19th Cntury Recong Kris or Keris dagger fighting knife from the Aceh Sumutra Indonesia. The dagger shows a curved forged blade with fine craftsmanship having a curved tapered octagonal hilt with flared shoulder. The thick forged blade has a raised median ridge runing down the entire spine as well as a fancy filed guard, a special feature from Recong and Kris / Keris daggers. A rare form of a classic Indonesian dagger, called the rencong, this example has the classic pistol shaped bent handle in either wood or buffalo horn. The rencong is the traditional weapon of Acehand Acehnese folklore ascribes mystical attributes and supernatural powers. The Acehnese note that the rencong takes the shape of the Muslim invocation, "Bismillaah In the name of God, the merciful and compassionate." Some blades being forged from damascus and some metroirite. The hilt is highly figured with octagonal diamond brass with inlays held in place with a tie of string. The sheath is carved, etched and brandished beautifully and well kept. Truly a rare example. Knife and sheath together are 17.5"L with the knife by itself being 14.5"L with a 9"L blade.
