Description
A Maya Jade Hunchback Pendant Mesoamerica, Late Classic Period, circa 600-900 AD An aged, seated hunchbacked figure leaning forward, his right arm holding an upraised leg, his left hand placed on abdomen, large facial features with parted lips and the large nose of a Maya elite where the bridge tapers up into the forehead. He wears a bead necklace, ear ornaments and sashed loincloth with a large knot between the legs. The oversized head is surmounted by a knotted turban. Pierced through the neck for suspension. In excellent condition, the mottled imperial green jade nugget has a high polish. Due to the fine carved and incised details, and the hardness of the stone, it glistens in the light. With a metal stand.
