Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec to Maya, ca. 500 BCE to 900 CE; Panama & Northern Colombia, Gran Cocle, ca. 750 to 950 CE. This is a gorgeous and wearable gold and jadeite necklace comprised of approximately 50 ancient and modern beads strung in modern times into a stylish piece. The mid-20th century 76% (18K+) gold spherical beads balance the strand and there are 15 each to both sides of the chain-link and lobster claw clasp. Starting with the petite jade seed beads, this area consists of approximately 40 ancient 64.4% (15K+) gold and jade beads, 10 ancient gold bells, and an ancient jadeite figural pendant. Several gilt brass beads have been added to balance the arrangement. The gold pendant fitting is modern, a threaded rod inserted through the hand drilled center into a U-shaped tube with a ball finial. Incredible craftsmanship that combines pre-Columbian artistry and modern aesthetics and wearability! Please note, this necklace has a similar beading style to jewelry designed by William Spratling (American, 1900-1967) but clearly has been restrung within the 21st century and any clasps with the Spratling mark have been replaced.

Wearable as shown and strung in modern times with modern spacer beads. Indentations and pinhole perforations to gold dangler beads and spheres. Minor abrasions to stones, but figural pendant is intact with clear details. Missing clapper stones in 2 bells.
