Item Details
Description
Lot of 16 antique Christmas themed postcards as shown. Not all cards may be described so please review closely. Cards have early renditions of Santa Claus or Saint Nicholas dressed in blue, green, brown and tan suits as opposed to red. One card of particular interest is one sent from Leominster Massachusetts in 1907 and mailed to Mr. Alexandre Martel of Sainte Clothilde de Horton Asylum in Arthabaska, Quebec Canada, apparently the founder of said organization. A user from a site called Ominous writes that "It's said that on December 25, 1959 three boys were caught smoking and were locked inside a closet. The boys then re-lit their cigarettes causing a fire that rapidly grew out of control, resulting in the deaths of the three boys." The user goes on to write "Some stories say that patients committed suicide by jumping out of windows or by hanging themselves, while other version are that during the fire people jumped from the fourth floor windows". Other postcards have postmarks to addressees which include New Berlin New York sent to Edmeston on December 23 1908 or 1903 - year illegible, and Albany, New York sent to Albany on December 23rd 1908, from Carver to Carver Massachusetts (this one with a non-postal Merry Christmas stamp affixed on the back from the same period), Belgrade Maine, Newbury Vermont, Clinton to Leominster Massachusetts postmarked on December 22 in 1910, Northville to Fulton Co New York postmarked on December 29th in 1906, New York to Manhattan on December 24th 1908, Thetford Center, Vermont from North Thetford, Biddeford to Sabattus Maine postmarked on December 23, 1905. Most if not all from the early 1900's to 1910's. Some may be embossed or have glitter. Mostly New England postmarks and addressees.
