Description
Near East, Persia / Egypt, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A high-quality silver box with an openwork lid that opens on a hinge. The sides and lid are etched with scrolling foliage and flowers, and it is possible the openwork allowed scented potpourri / incense to fumigate the room. The inside of the openwork near to top rim has a stamped mark in Arabic that is partially missing due to the openwork design. Size: 7.75" L x 7.25" W x 1.25" H (19.7 cm x 18.4 cm x 3.2 cm); silver quality: 85.76%; weight: 816.4 grams
