A silver and brass-inlaid wood writing slope made for J. N. Taylor North India, circa 1880 of rectangular form opening to reveal fold out writing slope with hinged compartments, decorated to top in silver and copper inlay with a central cartouche containing the name J.N. TAYLOR on a ground of floral interlace, the spandrels and border with further floral interlace, to the front in copper inlay with floral interlace 45 x 30 x 18 cm. Footnotes: J. N. Taylor was a civil engineer in British India who worked in the Bombay Presidency and the Punjab. He was made a Companion of the Indian Empire for his services as recorded in the Annals of the Punjab Engineering Congress, 1912.
