R. Todd Lincoln Donates to New England Historic Genealogical Society
Signed check, measuring 2.5" x 7.75", dated April 29, 1920, New York, NY. A check numbered 375 from the Farmers' Loan and Trust Company (later Citibank), fully endorsed by Robert Todd Lincoln paying to the order of the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) a sum of seven hundred dollars. First founded in 1845, the NEHGS is the oldest and largest genealogical society in the United States. Features areas of ink smudging and feathering; light surface creasing with bank cancellation holes slightly affecting top of signature. Else, very good.
Robert Lincoln (1843-1926) was an American lawyer, military officer, businessman and politician. The eldest son of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, he was the only one of their four children to outlive his parents. Lincoln became a business lawyer and company president, and served as both United States Secretary of War and the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain.
