A signed Postmaster appointment by President Ulysses S. Grant. 1p partially printed, measuring 15.75" x 9.75" (sight), Washington, D.C., dated March 14, 1873. Signed "U.S. Grant" as President and "J. C. Bancroft Davis" as Acting Secretary of State. A document appointing "William F. Stair…Deputy Postmaster at Hanover, in the State of Pennsylvania." With a white paper seal at the lower left margin. The document has flattened folds with moderate toning and minor foxing throughout. There is a small tear at the upper right corner. Boldly signed.
