Rogers, Attributed to Jay (American/Tennessee b. 1928) Figure in Hat, mid to late 20th century, found oxidized metal sculpture, signed Jay R in ink at back. 26 x 16.75 x 12.25 inches. Jay Rogers is a Self-Taught/Outsider artist living and working in Tennessee. Rogers had worked in various positions such as sheetmetal worker and cabinet maker before beginning his art practice. His work quickly caught the attention of East Tennesseans, which enabled him to become a full time artist. He is quoted as saying "Most of what I find by the rivers edge or in the woods...it reminds me of something and as I work on it, I try to bring it to the surface".
