Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Dragon Phoenix Porcelain Plum Vase. Potted into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, flaring ring mouth rim, raised on round foot base, with slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base colour which contrast against blue colour, depicted of flying phoenix and imperial five claw dragon. Since the dragon and the phoenix usually serve as auspicious symbols, any reported sightings of a dragon or phoenix were considered extremely auspicious, heralding a glorious period of peace and prosperity for the people and the country. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Dynasty Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
