MITCHELL & TYLER, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA RETAILED COIN SILVER PLACE FORKS, ASSEMBLED SET OF 12, each piece having a thread fiddle handle with pointed shoulders and an engraved "C" initial. Each with a partially worn or mostly worn "MITCHELL & TYLER" retailer's mark for the partnership between Samuel P. Mitchell and John H. Tyler, Sr. of Richmond, VA (active 1845-1866); seven forks with "G&H" maker's marks for Gale & Hayden of New York City, NY (active 1845-1850) and most having "1849" date marks; and five forks each with pseudo hallmarks of a lion passant, crown, and right-facing bust for an unidentified maker. Total weight: 27.07 ozt. Mid 19th century. 7 3/8" LOA.

Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including nicks, minute/minor denting, and worn spots to raised decoration, to engraving, and to marks.
