AN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR ERA S. KIRK & SON HEAVY COIN SILVER COVERED BUTTER DISH ON CLAW FEET, BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, 1861-1868, the morning glower flower finial is designed in the round tops a circular belled dome encrusted with low relief repoussé chinoiserie scene of birds hidden among "sleeping" morning glories, the lid fitting tightly over an interior fitted with a flower motif pierced butter tray and dished basin, the body with relief grape leaves and bright cut spiraling vines hung with juicy grape bunches, raised on feathered knee quadruped legs ending in claw and ball feet, marked, "S. Kirk & Son 110Z," height: 6 1/2", width: 7 3/4", depth: 6 1/2"; total approximate weight: 20.85 troy ounces.
Condition
Some minor wear. Has the engraved initial "W" on lid. Interior dish with now lost loop, only one remains. Small surface scratches, dents, and apparent wear throughout.
