Description
A good late 18th century Dutch inlaid mahogany cased contra-barometer
Reballio, Rotterdam
Surmounted by a shaped cresting with carved edge over an inlaid entablature, open tubes and protected cisterns within a serpentine-fronted box base over two dependent finials. The smaller silvered brass signed scale giving English inches 28 to 31, and a 20-0-16 scale, the larger scale divided into 24 units and engraved with ribbons and plants, the mercury thermometer with signed scale and record city temperatures such as Paris 1743 and Batavia 1753, 22cm wide x 10cm deep x 122cm high, (8 1/2in wide x 3 1/2in deep x 48in high)
