Lausanne: Francisci Grassset, 1763-8. 3 quartos in uniform binding. Half calf over brown paper boards. Spine with 5 raised bands, gilt rules, title in gilt on compartment 2. Blue-patterned pasted endpapers. All edges marbled. 36 engraved plates, some folding. Black and red titles. Title for Operum Anatomici Argumenti Minorum: Tomus Secundus Pars Prima (Lausanne: Francisci Grasset, 1767) inserted loose inside Tomus Tertius of same title. FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST SCIENTIFIC BOOK ON TERATOLOGY. Generally fair condition: boards rubbed/worn; joints split, hinges weak; spine head/tailpieces chipped; one vol. with upper detached; generally dry and brittle. Ex libris George Sumner Huntington (bookplate on pasted endpaper); ex library Columbia University, NY (label and stamp on pasted endpaper).
