This is a very interesting double-page Civil War era map of eastern Virginia between Richmond and Norfolk. The map covers the region of the James, Appomattox and York Rivers, and includes the cities of Yorktown, Norfolk, Richmond, and Petersburg. It shows great detail on military movements, lines, batteries and fortifications. Plenty of details on topography, streams, rivers, swamps, roads, settlements, etc are offered. Noted are the location of the "contest" between the Monitor and Merrimac on 9 March 1862; Confederate evacuation of Yorktown, May 4 1862; Battle vicinity Williamsburg, May 5 1862; Battle of Malvern Hill and several other engagements in the vicinity of Richmond.
