Description
A pair of large Russian silver enamel tea caddies with gemstones. The pieces are richly decorated with floral cloisonne enamel ornaments and images of mythical Sirin birds. The interior is gilt. The caddies are made in the same style, but have slightly different shapes and heights. Hallmarks: Cyrillic initials F.R., 88 silver standard. Sirin is a mythological creature of Rus legends, with the head of a beautiful woman and the body of a bird, usually an owl, borrowed from the siren of Greek mythology. According to myth, the Sirin lived in Iriy or around the Euphrates River. Collectible Russian Silverware And Tableware. Overall weight: 1404 grams
