After Eugene-Antoine Aizelin (French, 1821-1902), Marble Sculpture, depicting an attendant of goddess Diana, last quarter nineteenth century, signed "E. Aizelin" and "F. Barbedienne / Editeur" to base, inscribed "Nymphe de Diane" to front. Previous restoration work to raised finger. 30" H x 12.5" W x 9" D.Literature: S. Lami vol.1, pp.6-10, Musee d' Orsay, p. 34.Notes: Aizelin studied under Augustin-Alexandre Dumont (French, 1801-1884) and exhibited regularly at the Salon between 1852 and 1897. He won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 and in 1867 made a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur. The original model for the "Nymphe de Diane" was exhibited at the Salon of 1885 (No. 3276) and later released in editions in bronze and marble by Ferdinand Barbedienne.
