Aegis of Sakhmet or Bastet Late Period–Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664–30 BCE, Faience amulet, depicting the head of a lion or cat, wearing an aegis, a collarlike necklace. The aegis was an element of a sacred menat necklace from at least the 18th dynasty. This amulet is symbol of protection and fertility.
