Description
**Originally Listed At $600**
Native American, Alaska or Canada, Inuit, ca. 20th century CE. A charming pair of soapstone carvings depicting arctic animals: a reclining seal and a petite bird. The blubbery seal lies on his left side; head raised to address the viewer with a short snout and circular eyes. His skin has been burnished to a lustrous polish, starkly contrasting the rough craigs of rocks on which he rests and granting him a sleek, wet appearance, as though having just emerged from the sea. Alternatively, the bird stands in an alert pose with wings tucked, head at attention, and pointed beak angled upwards. Size of largest (seal): 11" L x 4" W x 5.4" H (27.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 13.7 cm)
Please note this item falls under the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony Act and is not eligible for international shipping. Native American, Alaska Native, & Native Hawaiian objects are only eligible to ship within the United States.
