Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed Region, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A fascinating mortar hand-carved from volcanic stone to present a deep bowl and abstract, relief decoration of an anthropomorphic face - possibly a trophy or deity head - and a scrolling, zoomorphic figure. Size: 6.1" L x 5.2" W x 4" H (15.5 cm x 13.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
