Ca. AD 800-1000.A ceramic hollow vessel, with an acorn-shaped body corsetted at mid-section and decorated with punched dots motifs. The conical base is embellished with incisions. These types of vessels were designed to be used as hand grenades, filled with flammable or explosive material, and hurled at enemy targets. Size: 100mm x 90mm; Weight: 445g Provenance: Private Oxfordshire collection; Formerly acquired on the European art market from pre-2000 collections.
