First Edition.Born and raised in a small Virginia farming community, Edna Lewis moved to New York and in 1947 became the chef for a small new restaurant called Café Nicholson, which became one of the finest restaurants in New York City. In this her first book, Mrs. Lewis shares over 100 recipes organized by seasons of the year. It was influential in reviving an interest in Southern cuisine. Among the frequent visitors to the Café: William Faulkner, Marlon Brando, Marlene Dietrich, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Gloria Vanderbilt. In 1997 Edna Lewis was inducted into the African American Chefs Hall of Fame.
