VERY EARLY CARVED DOWER CHEST: A remarkable, early carved walnut dower chest. With complex tracery carving in a gothic arch motif across the face of the chest. Having an iron lock plate with perforated gothic arch design. The two-plank lid opens to a large interior with hand forged iron strapwork hinges. Hand forged square cut nails evident throughout. Approx. 29.5" h x 67" w x 22" d.

Condition

Wear and damage commensurate with age including loss, woodworm holes, and repaired damage across the lower portion, all as pictured. Sturdy construction without any loose planks.
