Description
This sword/dagger cane/walking stick is from the late 19th Century. The dagger is clearly marked Coulaux & Cie and on the opposite side "Klingenthal" -- generally difficult to find in the USA. The cane/walking stick is bamboo with a bamboo root for the pommel. This cane is approx. 33 3/4 " (86cm) long and hides a forged steel dagger from the Coulaux house in Klingenthal (Bas-Rhin). It dates from the end of the 19th century, the very beginning of Art Nouveau (1875-1915). In good general condition with some age cracks in the bamboo--one is supported by the metal collar and the other by two metal 2" wide braces on the bottom half of the shaft. These match the metal and style of attachment that there is on the ferrule. The quadrangular blade measures approx. 26" ((66cm), still has it's point, looks straight and is well punched and marked. The scabbard is large bamboo that is approx 1" diameter at the brass collar narrowing to 3/4" at the ferrule. The end of the original shaft/ ferrule is metal.
