Description
Needlework picture worked in wool, silk, watercolor, and ink. A depiction of a famous scene in early literature. It is a forest scene with an old man and three children sitting by the edge of the path. One child plays a flute. One child is resting a hand on the old man. The old man is touching the hand of the third child with his index finger. Behind them and to the left, a soldier is coming up the path. The faces of all four figures are hand painted on fabric. . The whole work is framed in a contemporary gilt frame behind glass with a reverse painted "matt". Frame: H 21" W 23-1/2". Sight: H 14" W 16-1/4". Condition: Some minor losses to the frame, mainly at the corners. Some flaking of the black "matt" reverse paint. Still, an impressive work. Collection of Ann Fassnacht.
